Midgley’s Stove & Fireplace Center – Anywhere Else and You’re Just Playing with Fire!

“Anywhere Else and You’re Just Playing with Fire” — you know you’ve seen the advertisements and heard these words… do you know how Midgley’s came about?

The Midgley name was first heard in 1881 as Lane County residents found the best source of fine millwork from them and the lumber harvested locally in the Willamette Valley. The location was not far from the more widely known “Midgley’s Mill” at 4th and High Street. The millwork encompassed a wide range of products from rough lumber to many of the doors and windows installed in Eugene homes from 1881 up into the 1970s.

In the 70’s Midgley’s became the first Vermont Castings Wood Stove dealer in the Willamette Valley, and since then has remained the source for the finest wood, gas, and pellet stoves in Lane County. In 2005, Mike Collins and Roger Oberg, who both owned home building and remodeling companies, purchased Midgley’s and brought their level of expertise to the operations.

On a sad note, and with our condolences on the passing of Mike Collins who was a pillar here in the community and one of the fearless leaders of Midgley’s…. the staff at Midgley’s Stove & Fireplace Center is centered on growing and honoring Mike’s legacy. The staff prides themselves on the level of service and knowledge they offer, and will always honor the impact that Mike made.

Midgley’s is the only local hearth products dealer who provides installation with their own factory certified technicians. They don’t subcontract out work as they want to provide the best experience possible. They offer full-service installations and chimney sweeping and repair. Midgley’s Stove & Fireplace Center carries only the top names in the hearth industry such as Lopi, Town, and Country, Harman, Valor and Jotul. They also sell a cool line of BBQs and accessories with an emphasis on being super courteous, and professional!
